Can't type in text fields..... odd...

I'm not sure if this is an XP, Explorer, Java problem or what, so I hope I'm
in a good place.

Several times recently, while on the internet, I have been unable to type
messages into the text field (where the actual content of an email or message
forum like this forum goes). I can't get the cursor to appear in the fields.
Using the tab key to tab down through the various links and fields gets me to
"highlight" the text field, but I still can't type any text in it.

Obviously I am able to right now, but I can't on other sites or email hosts.
Here are the specs that may be relevant.

Win XP Home
IE 6.0
only happens when on internet, in email sites or message forums.

Thanks,

Matt

You might see if your experience is similar to mine. I had tightened
up security in Internet Explorer, disabling some things, setting many
others to prompt, etc. And then I discovered I couldn't type into
some text boxes, amusingly enough, couldn't type into the search text
box on Microsoft's site. Gotta love security :)

Something I stumbled onto, probably exposing yet one more gaping
security hole somewhere. I could type into notepad, copy the text
to the clipboard, right click the text box and it would let me paste
the text into the box.

So, you might make a note of your IE security settings, loosen them
up for just a minute, probably exit IE and re-enter, might eve have
to reboot to make sure it was actually seeing you had changed these,
who knows, and see if the problem goes away for that site. Then I'd
tighten the security back up and find another way around this.

LOTS of programmers ASSUME things about your security settings and
there are often no indications at all that something has failed
because of this. I have a small list of applications that simply
fail with no hint what the real problem is, because of this.

I hope this might be of some help. (Currently, for who knows what
reason, I am again able to type into Microsoft's search box)
