can't turn on firewall or start service

Suddenly the firewall won't turn on, I do have internet access but no local
network access.
I can ping our server and workstations.
No network places or entire network shows up.
If I try to start the firewall service I get this error: Error 23 data error
(cyclic redundancy check)
I switched the network cable from the on-board network adapter to the
network card with no luck..

Well, that wouldn't be due to your Windows firewall. It blocks inbound
traffic only.

....you just can't *browse* the network.

The first thing I'd try would be a system restore to a point before this
problem came up, if it were me....you might try that.
