Can't synchronise WMP10 with a panasonic sv-mp20v mp3 player

I've just downloaded version 10 of Windows Media Player, and I can no longer
copy tracks (from CD's that I own, copied onto my hard drive with no copy
protection) to my MP3 player.
I've created a play list, clicked on start sync, I'm told syncronisation is
in progress and then when it's finished I can see "Synchronised to device (1
items), so it looks like it's worked. But when I unplug my MP3 player and
press play, I just get a message saying "no track play".
I've only encountered these problems since downloading WMP10, I could
download the same tracks to the same player using WMP9 so I've even tried
deleting WMP10 and downloading WMP9 but I can't work out how to do this (I've
found the download for WMP9 but don't seem to be able to delete WMP10 without
deleting the XP service pack 2, and I'm very wary of doing this). HELP!

Iin the property of your device you choose what format you want
to transfer to the device. WMP will transcode to that format for you when
it syncs.

I don't know how to do that - I've right clicked on the start menu, explored
for drive e (my player), right clicked on that and gone to properties, but
there doesn't seem to be any option to control the format there. In any case,
my player supports WMA, MP3 and AAC, what other format could media player be
trying to use?

Incidentally, I have now managed to copy music by not using media player (I
simply open up my music folder via the start menu and copied and pasted into
drive e), but surely if that works, I should be able to do it via media
player?
