can't stop motherboard beeping

Stu

I recently downloaded something from C/Net and since then
the transducer on my motherboard beeps (like a boot-beep)
every few minutes quite randomly and doesn't stop, even
when the computer is idle. Re-boot or re-start doesn't
stop it. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition on a Celeron
powered Gatweway. I checked my Startup directory and
there's nothing in it. I did a full virus scan and a
Spybot scan - no viruses and no adware/spyware. I doubt
it has anything to do with the software I downloaded from
C/Net. Please help - it's driving me nuts.

Recently serviced a PC with just that problem... drove me nuts too. Noticed that the clock would lose time with unit being off only 1/2 hour or so. Changed out the motherboard battery and it fixed the clock... and the beeb went away too. Go figure..
