Can't Start Safe Mode

I've read the "help' instructions for booting up in Safe Mode but I'm
confused. In past Windows I've simply started Pwr On, pressed Ctrl or F8
and reached the drop-down list. This isn't working for me now.
But...I don't understand the "click Start, click Shut Down, to get the
drop-down list.

I know it's an "ID10T" problem...& I guess that's me!!! :) No joke. I
really need help. Thanks, Bobg

ID ten T error, huh?

click Start, click Shut Down is because most people would be reading those
instructions in Help and Support with their computer running. You have to
restart to get to Safe Mode.

If for some reason the F8 method does not work...

Start | Run | Type: msconfig | OK |
Boot.ini tab | Check: /SAFEBOOT |
When you see the prompt to restart the computer |
Click Restart

Don't forget to open msconfig again and UNCheck:: /SAFEBOOT

Using the System Configuration Tool Method

the process is exactly the same..... Reboot your computer, and continue
tapping F8 until you get to the menu where you can boot into Safe Mode.

The "click Start, click Shut Down, to get the drop-down list." you mentioned
is most likely a description of the process of how to bring up the drop down
menu to reboot your computer when the Welcome screen has been disabled.

Thanks to all who helped this idiot. Tapping the F8 rather than holding it
down did it. Have a nice day. bobg :)

When the pc is booting up, press F8 to selective startup menu.
Now then, if you want a faster way to get the Shutdown menu, press & hold the Windows-key then press u.
