Start computer in safe mode?

I am part-way through a process to rid my PC of a virus and need to restart
it in safe mode, but do not know how. My instruction read to press F* after
selecting "Please select the operating system to start" from the drop-down
list, but I do not have a drop-down list displayed. When I click, start, turn
off computer, only have the option to click stand-by, turn off or restart.

Can some instruct me how to turn my PC ON in safe mode?

Any and all help will be greatly appraciated

When you restart it keep hitting F8. it should give you the option.
