Can't Shut Down Win2k Pro and XP workstations

D

Don

Anybody have a KB article that fixes this problem? When the
user goes to shutdown their computer the only option in the
Shut Down Windows dialog box is to log off. From the
Ctl+Alt+Del screen if I click shutdown I get the shut down
option. Must be a registry setting somewhere.

Thanks,
Don

Try

Start
Run
type
GPEDIT.MSC
click OK

<Group Policy opens>

navigate to

User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Start Menu & Tasbar

right hand side option

Disable and remove the Shut Down command

by default it's set to
Not configured

Help from that option

"
Prevents users from shutting down or restarting Windows.

This policy removes the Shut Down option from the Start menu and
disables the Shut Down button on the Windows Security dialog box, which
appears when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL.

This policy prevents users from using the Windows user interface to shut
down the system, although it does not prevent them from running programs
that shut down Windows.

If you disable this policy or do not configure it, the Shut Down menu
option appears, and the Shut Down button is enabled.
"

hope that helps?

Thanks for the help. Turned out to be a corrupted link to
the default domain policy in the Domain Servers OU. From
the article Q324383, These are known errors in the Windows
operating System. Sheesh, why don't they fix them?
