Computer Won't Automatically Shut Down

H

Herb

Have Win2000 with Service Pack 4. *Was* working fine. I
downloaded/installed all the MS Win2000 updates from the MS website

Now, when I shut down 'puter, it goes thru motions of a shutdown, then
I hear a little click like it is shutting down (which is a normal
sound), but the screen goes to all-black with a white blinking cursor
(looks a lot like a DOS-mode screen) -- so, 'puter has not ACTUALLY
shutdown.

Ran registry fixer, but that didn't do anything.

Ran MSCONFIG -- only MemCheck and vptray run at start-up. Nothing in
Device Manager appears to be hanging up.

So, basically to shut down, I have to manually push-in and hold the
main power button for about 5 seconds.

When I started 'puter in SAFE mode, it _did_ shutdown correct.

Thanx for any ideas.
