can't setup XP file synchronization manager

Right now, the only two available items for selection that are shown in the
Synchonization Manager (Windows Explorer - Tools - Synchronize) are a
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 entry and an Offline Web Pages entry. This is even
despite the fact that I have shared folders between my laptop and desktop on
my home LAN - My laptop is XP home, and the desktop is Win2000 professional -
Please advise -

Thanks/Claude

Hi Claude,

I had a similar problem. I found out from Dell Tech Support that XP Home
does not support file synchronization. XP Pro and Win2000 do. You can
synchronize from Win2000 on your desktop back to your laptop but not the
reverse. I believe this will do what you want it to do. The alternative is to
upgrade XP Home to XP Pro.

I have 2 desktops with XP Home Ed. and one with XP Pro. I put the file I
want to synchronize on an XP Home desktop into a shared folder and, from the
XP Pro desktop select that file across the network and set up
synchronization. It seems to be working so far.

Good luck and happy computing,
Dannie
