Can't set default email fonts Q198848

This problem was addressed in Q198848, but the solution there is the same as
instructions in Outlook, and they don't work.
I have selected Word as my email editor (I was already set up that way). I
followed instructions for setting default fonts for writing new messages and
forward/reply messages. But this is not taking effect. When I begin to edit
my replies, all text is in the default format for reading messages. I have
to switch from Plain Text to HTML or Rich Text, and change font type, size,
and color for each message. How do I set these automatically?

Plain Text doesn't hold any formatting at all. Switching to another format
doesn't change this but it enables you to change it.
