Default font when sending links from IE8

Just installed Office 2007 yesterday. I have changed default fonts in
Outlook 2007 (for new messages and replies) to be what I want them to be.
Works as expected if I compose a new e-mail from scratch within Outlook, and
also if I create a message by initiating with a "Send" in Word 2007, Excel
2007, etc.

However, when I attempt to send a link from IE8 or from Avant Browser (which
uses IE engine), the following things happen:

1. IE8 - message defaults to plain text rather than HTML and uses Courier
New (the default plain text font) as font.
2. Avant Browser - message defaults to HTML (my default in Outlook) but
font defaults to the IE default font type for Webpages (Times New Roman
unless changed in IE).

This was *not* the behavior in Outlook 2003. Appears in Outlook 2007 i'm
stuck with the default font and faontsize set in IE -- is that right?

Thanks.

Stranger still - if IE8 is not also open, Avant Browser defaults to Times New
Roman 12 point. (And there is no font setting in Avant Browser independent
of IE - in Avant Browser you still go to IE options to set the font.)
However, if IE8 *is* open, then sending a link from Avant Browser will cause
the default IE8 font (which I have reset to Arial) to be used in the message
text. In short - IE8 closed = message font Times New Roman (sending from
Avant Browser). IE8 open = message font Arial (sending from Avant Browser).

Using Send to links in other programs uses simple mapi and will use plain
text for links and HTML for pages (if its your default). It's a limitation
of simple mapi - it calls up the mail client differently that you would from
within the client and many of the default settings you use are ignored.

Outlook 2003 uses the browser for rendering HTML and the tighter integration
can affect behavior. Outlook 2007 has its own HTML rendering engine. Firefox
handles it a little better, but not by much as it still uses simple mapi.
Since security is a little looser than in IE8, anything affected by security
settings or options work better in FF.

Thanks. I did notice that my default message font in Outlook 2007 gets used
when I send a link from Firefox. That's good, though I don't use Firefox
very much.

It still seems strange that Avant Browser, which uses IE8 engine and thus
"shares" all of its security settings, appearance settings, default programs,
etc., would behave differently than IE8 itself on this.
