can't send mail

Operating system: Windows Vista, I am using home and student 2007. I want to
send Emails via Windows mail (my provider is GMX.Net).

After installation, I wanted to send an empty (no text, no pix) test mail to
myself. However, the mail did not go through and I received error message:
"can't send mail. unexpected error with display of message. Check if you
have enough system ressources. Try again".

I tried again several times, but no success. I cannot even delete the unsent
message - I am getting the same error message. +

Can you help?
