I am receiving e-mail but can't send. Receiving error message - Your server
has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include
server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject
'hi from B'klyn', account: 'mail.optonline.net', server:
'mail.optonline.net', protocol: SMTP, port: 25, secure(SSL):no, error number:
OX800CCCOF. Also received a message when I tried to send a different e-mail
-error code OX800CCCOD.
I recently installed Adware Alert. I have Windows Defender, Webroot
SpySweeper, and Trend Micro Anti-virus.

Trend Micro antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
First, go into its settings and disable any interaction with email. Do the same
for Webroot Spy Sweeper. If no improvement, uninstall Trend Micro, reboot,
then try Windows Mail again.

Another option (instead of uninstalling Trend Micro) is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of
aggressive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:

I all of a sudden cannot send email. I get this error message:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test', Account: 'Windows
Mail', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

THanks for any help.

I upgraded to Windows Live Mail. I disabled any interaction with e-mail in
Trend Micro Anti-virus and Webroot Spy Sweeper. I still got the error message
and couldn't send e-mails. I shut down Adware Alert and then everything
worked. I will try running a scan with adware and then see if I can disable
the e-mail interaction. I appreciate your help.

Sounds like you found the troublemaker.
As a general rule, all third party security software must be configured
to disable any interaction with email.
