Can't send outgoing e-mail

Kapperino

Last Friday, I switched form Optimum to Verizon Fios. However, I am still
using my optimum.net e-mail account. I can receive messages in Windows mail,
but cannot send anytihng out. Belwo is the error message I get.

Does anyone know what I can do to remdy this? I would rather not switch to
Verizon e-mail , but I d not know what to do. Currently, both my incoming &
outgoing servers are mail.optonline.net which worked until Fios was installed
(the incoming still works)

Thanks for any help

Steve

If you live in Canada, you can receive mail sent from the US with US postage
but you can't send mail with US postage, can you? <wink>

Similarly, you cannot send email using optonline.net's outgoing (SMTP)
mailserver if optonline.net is not your ISP, Steve. And I'd doubt Verizon
would allow you to send from the (e-mail address removed) account using its SMTP
server.

OK, so do I need to chane my e-mail address to an "@verizon.net" address in
order to get mail now? Or should I try first to the Verizon ISP address and
see if that wroks (which, as you say is doubtful).

No, you can't just change your address from (e-mail address removed) to
(e-mail address removed), you need to create a new (e-mail address removed) account then
learn how to configure it correctly in Windows Mail so that you'll be able
to receive and send messages from the account. Contact Verizon Support,
Steve. If you need more assistance after that, reply to this thread: I've
got some bookmarks that might help you.

I'm not sure if Verizon will let you send with a @optonline From address,
but you can try it. You must, however, change the SMTP server in your
Optonline account to outgoing.verizon.net. Also, make sure that
"My server requires authentication" is checked, then click the adjacent
'Settings' button, select 'Log on using', then enter your Verizon username
and password.

No, I realize I have to set things up with the verizon e-mail account.

Thanks for your help,

I have to set up a Verizon username & password tonight, then I'll try that.
If ng, I'll just use the verizon e-mail.

Thanks for your help,
