This is a similar message as other people have posted, I just can't find a
reply as to what is the fix! Here is the message that I get when trying to
send a message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'harvest', Account: 'mail', Server: 'gvtel.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Thanks for any help with this.

Have you contacted gvtel technical support?
It would appear that your may have an incorrect entry in the account settings.
Most of the time, but not with every ISP, the Server should read 'smtp.gvtel.com' or 'mail.gvtel.com' and not just plain 'gvtel.com'.
GVTEL did not post any help on their web site, so call their tech support line.

If your account settings are correct, what Antivirus Software do you use? Some are not compatible with Windows Mail.

Interestingly the document here:
http://www.gvtel.com/pdf_file/internet_vistainstructions.pdf

says that the OP is correct. Can't be right surely? It MUST be pop or
mail.gvtel.com and smtp.gvtel.com surely?

It could be correct, if they use an DNS alias for the server on their
network.

Think they must do - I can ping gvtel.com, mail.gvtel.com, but not
pop.gvtel.com or smtp.gvtel.com...

"Unexpected" termination is usually caused by interference from an
antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

Asking a question?
Please tell us the version of the application you are asking about,
your OS, Service Pack level
and the FULL contents of any error message(s)

The OP was correct the incoming and outgoing server should be just "gvtel.com" (we have a couple of ISPs in this area that do the same.
I suspect the problem was the fact that on the server page, he check "My server requires authentication" for SSL and that box should not be checked.
