can't send email

Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.

By any chance are you sending while connected to the Internet via
a provider other than Charter? Mobile laptops often run into that problem.

When you got that error message, was your Internet connection
coming from Charter, or were you on a laptop away from home?
Charter, unfortunately, does little to support its traveling customers.
Let me know what your travel status was, and then we can discuss
possible workarounds.
