Can't send Email

I'm trying to help a friend.. They have Verizon ISP and when the account
was set up, they configured the computer to use Windows Mail for their email.
It was working fine...they received emails and replied to emails and sent
new emails just fine.
Recently, they can receive emails but cannot reply to them. Whenever they
hit reply, type out the message and hit send, it only shows in the
outbox...it never goes to the sent box and no one is receiving their replies.
I have checked all the settings and they are okay.
We need help to fix it... The Verizon tech on the phone, could not help
them...she also found all the settings were correct.
HELP! need to kow how to fix...should we uninstall the mail account and
reinstall it? if so, please advise step by step instructions on doing it...
Appreciate your help
Thank you

I would suspect a setting has changed or has gotten hosed in MS Mail and
needs to be enabled or reset.

That setting is at Tools/Options/Send and the checkbox Send Email
Immediately.

If that option is disabled, then emails will be held in the Outbox until
such time that the Send/Receive button is used to send the emails out of the
Outbox.

If things are hosed for this feature, then check off the setting and check
on the setting to see if that resets it.

Hi, Mr. Arnold - and Mamacat.
Then push the Send/Receive button at the top of the screen to make MS mail
send the mail out of the Outbox.

Good advice - normally. But there is an oft-reported bug in Windows Mail.
:>(

See the newsgroup microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail for several reports of
this problem. My own experience is reported in the thread, "Unsent messages
in outbox", started there by Michelle on 3/17/07. Briefly, WM "loses the
handle" on a message in the Outbox. Thereafter, we can't send the message,
or delete it, or move it to another folder. The only cure, so far, is to
wipe out the WM database, then import it anew, as described by Steve
Cochran, MVP, in that thread - and in several other places. See the URL
that Cal Bear '66 provided: http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

Microsoft is aware of this problem, and we hope that a fix may be coming
soon. Yesterday's press release was mainly about Windows Live Hotmail, but
it also mentions the upcoming "release of Windows Live Mail beta, a free
consumer e-mail client available via download that will be a successor to
Outlook Express and Windows Mail on Windows Vistaâ„¢."
