can't send email from Windows Mail

A previously functioning Windows mail account now won't send mail.
I've tried fixes suggested in the help screens by opening properties,
changing authentication, etc. Nothing has worked. Here's the error message.
Means absolutely nothing to me.
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'pop.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Could it be related to Comcast's changeover?

Hotmail, Yahoo ands Gmail are primarily webmail accounts.
Windows Mail cannot access any webmail account. It can only access POP3 and
IMAP accounts.
The newer Windows Live Mail can access POP3, IMAP and Hotmail/Live accounts.

MS recently added POP3 access to Hotmail/Live accounts from most countries.

Yahoo offers POP3 access to Plus accounts.

Gmail offers POP3 and IMAP access.

Windows Mail won't work with free Yahoo accounts directly. You need to
either pay for the Plus service or use YPOP in between Windows Mail and the
Yahoo servers.

Hotmail just turned POP access back on, after it was off for several years.

Gmail works fine, you just have to set it up. Their directions are pretty
clear, and include directions for Windows Mail with screenshots.
Start here:

Click on the links at 1 and 2 to get to these pages:

and

And you'll be good to go in just a few minutes.

Of course, you have to actually *have* a gmail account to do this. You have
to set that up separately.
If you don't have one, go here:
http://mail.google.com/mail/help/about.html

and click on "Create an Account".

HP has nothing to do with what's required for you to connect a mail client
with a mail server.

-and
what can i do to overcome this

See above. The same directions apply to Windows Live Mail, and similar
steps work with other POP clients such as Thunderbird.

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

If that setting was already unchecked, which antivirus are you running?
Some of them are not fully compatible with Windows Mail.
