Can't send email from one of two accounts; can receive on both

D

DougF

Actually I have two problems

For background, I use Windows Mail for two email accounts (one business, one
personal)

Yesterday hitting send on an email starting resulting in the email being
placed in my outbox. I then have to hit the send/receive to actually send
the email. I have seen this issue addressed elsewhere on the site but have
yet to correct it I disabled my antivirus email settings to no effect).

That was working until a few hours ago. Now it will only send mail from my
business account. Email from my personal account stays in the outbox.
However, I still receive email others send to my personal account.

Any ideas?

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them are not fully compatible
with Windows Mail. Problems often don't surface until there is an
update.

What happens when you click Send All? Any error message?

We're running McAfee

There is not error message.

What strikes me as particlaly weird is that it will send the email for my
business account but not my personal account.

I tried downloading the program that I saw you and others suggest in other
posts. When I tried to install it the process would run for awhile, then I
got an error message saying it had not been installed. I tried it twice

Thanks

One thing you should try as a possible quick fix is to delete that
malfunctioning mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate
that account.

If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.
McAfee antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
Sometimes it takes a while before symptoms start showing up.
First of all, turn off email scanning in McAfee, although that is seldom sufficient.

If the problem continues, the only way you can prove or disprove that
McAfee is the culprit is to uninstall it, followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=1033

If you decide to replace McAfee, we can recommend a free antivirus
program which is more compatible with Windows Mail:

Instead of switching to a different antivirus, another option is to upgrade
to Windows Live Mail (WLM), which is more resistant to the adverse effects
of overly intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail

Even with WLM, you must disable email scanning in the antivirus,
for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Thanks, I will try deleting and recreating that account

McAfee cameon this computer. I sued to have kaspersky, which is better all
around. Does that create similar problems?

I saw Windows Live Mail in one of your other posts and checked out the info
last night. I may do that anyway.

Let me try a few of these and then I'll post the results.

Thanks again

Kaspersky is a better antivirus than McAfee, and more compatible
with Windows Mail. Regardless of which antivirus is used, it
should have its email scanning disabled to avoid message store
corruption. If you decide to ditch McAfee, be sure to follow up its
uninstall with the special removal tool.

Hello, just read your posts, I have, it seems the same or similar problem.

After months of no problems with two accounts on windows mail all of a
sudden I can't send out mail on one of them. I can receive but not send, and
the other account works both ways fine still. I am a Comcast user and use
the McAfee antivirus program. I did try turning off email scanning, and
diabling the antivirus but to no avail. When it tries to send out in the bad
account I get this Error Message=The connection to the server has failed.
Subject 'TEST', Account: 'PJB Builders', Server: 'smtp.comast.net', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E. Does it sound like I have to not use McAfee anymore?

Thanks

Check all the account settings against this page:
http://www.comcast.com/Customers/FAQ/FaqDetails.ashx?Id=2288

If all appears to be correct, and it still fails, then remove that account
from WM, close WM, reopen WM & rebuild the account, according to the
provided settings.

McAfee is possibly the problem?

Get AVG Free from the internet, AVG Free AV from
http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe

Remove McAfee, followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=1033

Install AVG without the option to scan email, that choice is offered at the
point of Custom install.

Thanks for the reply, I did check all the account settings with Comcast
technician and deleted and rebuit the account, so I guess its good by McAfee
and hello AVG?

Say Gary, I see you mention Windows Live Mail, Isn't that an Internet/Web

Is 'PJB Builders' a Comcast account (e.g., (e-mail address removed))?

Are you connected via Comcast when attempting to send?

Not in the US....

Should do?

Try:
Configuration Settings:

a.. Incoming Server = pop3.live.com
-Port 995
-Encryption/Authentication = SSL is required
-Full Username = (e-mail address removed) (same as full email address, where
xxxx.com = live.com, msn.com or hotmail.com )
-Password is required
-SPA(secure password authorization) = Off(uncheck the option)
b.. Outgoing Server = smtp.live.com
-Port 25 [Note: Try Port 587 instead of Port 25 if your ISP blocks Port 25
use. Similar blocking can occur when using Port 25 in hotels or accessing
via a WiFi network]
-Outgoing Server Authentication = On(check the option)
-Encryption/Authentication = SSL is required (Note: In Outlook 2007 select
TLS instead of SSL)
-Full Username = (e-mail address removed) (same as full email address)
- unless outgoing server is configured to use same incoming server
option
-Password is required
- unless outgoing server is configured to use same incoming server
option

Windows Live Mail is a desktop email program, similar to Windows Mail.
It is not web-based, but it does handle Hotmail/Live.com accounts
as well as POP or IMAP accounts.
