Hi

It's not in this folder?

Documents and Settings\<Your Account Name>\Start Menu

Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...

%userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If you do not find the item there,
Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...

%allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Some start menu shortcuts are in the all users profile. If you right
click the shortcut and choose >delete< it will delete the shortcut
for all users.

Maybe you have lost your Start Menu folder. Or just the Startup folder.

Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...

%userprofile%

Does Documents and Settings\YourNameHere open?

%userprofile%\Start Menu

I typed %myuserprofile% in Run and got error msg that can't find file. I
have all the other standard folders in my profile, but am missing the Start
Menu folder.

this shortcut is clearly only in my profile startup folder. I just can't see
the folder.

I went to msconfig and the startup tab and unchecked a box associated with
AOL, but after restart I got a dialogue box that seemed to steer me to go
back to normal mode, which restored the check in the AOL box.

Try using %userprofile% *NOT* %myuserprofile%. As you have seen
%myuserprofile% will only get an error.

%userprofile% is an environment variable that is the path to the user's home
folder.

Typing or pasting %userprofile% into the Start | Run box opens to the
Documents and Settings folder on whatever drive it is located on for the
logged in user.

I.e. C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here

Also, right click the Start button, click on Explorer.

What opens?

C:\Documents and Settings\Markymowster\Start Menu ?

Click on the [+] next to Programs to expand the tree.

Forget that. I reread another of your posts where you stated: [[When I open
"explore" and go to D & S\my user name\...the Start Menu folder does not
appear.]]

Try this...

Reset the Shell Folders paths to defaults
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/usershellfolders.htm

It sounds like %USERPROFILE%\Start Menu may be messed up big time.
