I have never seen this one before. I have a spreadsheet, lets call this A,
that is linked to numerous other spreadsheets on my lan. When I call up
spreadsheet A, regardless of whether I update my links or not, the text in
the cell containing the link reference is truncated. I am not exceeding any
character length constraints here either. I know this because when I open up
the linked file B I can see the whole thing. Any ides? We are using Excel
2003. TIA

How many characters are we talking about? How much gets truncated?

If the sending file is open in the same instance of excel, you'll see all the
characters.

If the sending file is not open in that same instance of excel, you'll see 256
characters (well, after the first recalculation).

Thats correct. If the linked file is not open I only see about 256 chars,
but when the linked file is open I see all the text. Is this a bug in Excel?
Why can't I see the whole thing whether the linked file is open or closed?
Thanks

I think it's a design choice--not a bug.

I don't know away around it.
