Can't save audio file as movie file

G

Guest

I've tried to save individual audio files as movie files but I don't get the
choice for WMA or AVI formats under "other settings" and the file always save
as a Windows Media File.

When I try and find this file to import as video, it isn't in movie format
and can't be placed in the video timeline section, but goes into the
audio/music line.
If I add a picture when creating, I can then save audio and pic as a WMA
movie file but I want just the audio file saved as a movie file.

Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Audio saves as a .wma...Windows Media Audio...file.

Why are you expecting to save an "Audio" file in the
..wmv movie format?

That's right...Why? Because it is not a video.

Nope...when you add the pic it will save as a
..wmv...Windows Media Video file.

Hi John,

Thanks for your comments. I'm trying to create a movie with video, music and
narration. In another thread, you recently suggested dragging one audio file
to audio track and saving it as a movie. Then reimport, drag to timeline and
drag second audio track to audio music track. That's what I want but can't
do, nor can I find the optional settings you suggest. I'm sorry, I just don't
understand and would appreciate your further advice. Thanks!

Are you using Movie Maker 2.1? Windows XP?

I think it would be best if we start over and
you describe exactly what you are trying to
accomplish.

Anyway.....

If you drag a "Video" clip to the "Audio/Music"
track on the timeline and save it as a movie.....
the resulting file will be a ".wma" audio file.
This is a way of separating audio from a video
clip.

As for optional settings...you mean for saving
video files? Assuming there is actually a clip
in the "Video" track of the timeline...

Here are the steps...

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

Hi John,

Greatly appreciate your assistance. Ok, from the beginning: Windows XP,
Movie Maker 21: I'm trying to have multiple music/audio tracks as I wish to
line up narration, slide show and music in one final piece.

From your comments, am I correct in presuming that there always has to be
some video clip in the video track to have a file saved as a movie file? One
cannot save just a music or narration in the audio/music track as a movie
file?

If so, what did you mean by "dragging one audio file to audio track and
saving it as a movie. Then reimport, drag to timeline and drag second audio
track to audio music", which you provided in another thread?

Apologies for not getting this but thank you!

Music or narration will be a .wma audio file. You can
re-import these files and use them in your projects.

I meant exactly what I said...I think the confusion is
because the steps required to save the audio
are to go to....File / Save Movie File...

"Save Movie File" is the choice you have to make
in order to save the file...not the result you are trying
to achieve.

It's not that hard...if you just experiment you will
understand the steps.

Thanks, John,

Yes, I know how to save under movie file, but...so I can't save a plain
audio track as an individual movie file so that I can reimport it into the
'video' track, thus giving me a blank space in the audio/music track?

Appreciate your asssistance.

================================
When you have audio in the "Audio" track and
audio in the "Audio/Music" track...you can save
the movie and then re-import it. Now all the audio
(previously 2 tracks) will be on the "Audio" track.
So...now the "Audio/Music" track will be open
again and you can add another audio file.

If you experiment you will figure it out.
