'Can't Save a Movie'

I'm working on some wedding videos and moved my working folders from the C
drive of my laptop to an external drive connected via USB2.

I just finished editing a 5 minute video and saved it as a WMV file... no
problem. But I turned around to save it again as a DV-AVI file and got the
standard error message about source files, space, etc.... none of which are
true. The external drive is NTFS and has 43 GB free.

So I tried saving it as DV-AVI on my C drive and got the same error
message.... tried again as WMV and no problem.

I opened another project and saved it as DV-AVI on the external drive and C
drive... no problem.

So there's something about the one project file that won't let me save the
movie as DV-AVI.

Got it!!!!

The default properties of the Western Digital drive mounted into an external
enclosure and connected by USB2 includes a policy of 'Optimizing for quick
removal' so you don't have to use the Safe Removal utility in XP before
disconnecting it.

The other option is 'Optimize for performance'..... which enables write
caching in Windows.... but the Safe Removal utility is then needed.

Optimizing for quick removal let me save all movies as WMV files, and small
(30 second) timelines as DV-AVI, but I have to switch to 'Optimize for
performance' to render a 5 minute movie to DV-AVI on the external drive.
