Can't run update

I am using WindowsXP Home and when I try to do an update
for IE 6 it will let me scan for updates and then view and
install, but when I actually try to down load. The download
screen comes up and nothing happens. It just sits there
like it's locked up. Also if I click on a link and a new
window has to open nothing show up in the ne window. Thanks
for any help
