Can't Remove Backup Files

R

Retired Bill

I recently had to "REPAIR" my system due to trying to install the Win 7
upgrade. It screwed up my PC. Repair saved all my previous files, including
system files on my C drive. But I need the space.

I tried to delete them but I get a message that I am not authorized. I
tried to change the permissions but it wouldn't let me. I really need this
file space. Am I just screwed?

From Help searching for Access Denied

I installed a new version of Windows and now I can't open a folder.

This problem might occur because some of your user account information has
changed, even though your user name and password have not changed. You might
be able to resolve the problem by taking ownership of the folder.

To take ownership of a folder
Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click
Properties.

Click the Security tab, click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.

Click Edit. If you are prompted for an administrator password or
confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click the name of the person you want to give ownership to.

If you want that person to be the owner of files and subfolders in this
folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.

Click OK.
