Can't receive e-mail from JUST ONE sender

B

bilglas

I use Windows Mail and have six different addresses I use regularly. I get
e-mails from lots of people, addressed to all six addresses, but my MAIN
address is bilglas-at-kc.rr.com. As far as I know, I receive all e-mails
sent to me; I've never had anyone report sending me an e-mail I didn't
receive. My virus program (Avast) is set to IGNORE incoming e-mails. I'm not
aware of any filters or firewalls that directly affect my incoming e-mail.

One exception: My brother, from whom I receive e-mails regularly, can no
longer reach me at my main address. He can successfully send e-mail to ALL
my other address ... no problem. But anything sent to the main address just
disappears. I don't get any notice of any kind, and HE doesn't get any
notice of any kind ... it just vanishes into the ether. Although I do have a
few Message Rules set up, none would have any effect on his e-mails.

As usual: My ISP (RoadRunner) says it isn't THEIR fault. His ISP says it
isn't THEIR problem, either. My brother isn't having any difficulty sending
e-mails to ANYONE else ... just this ONE address.

Perhaps somebody with some understand of how e-mail WORKS could offer a
theory as to what else MIGHT be causing this? As long as I was using Outlook
Express on XP, we never had a problem. Only since Vista...........

Thanks!!

Are the five addresses aliases of the main address?

Now that you have reported your Email address in the newsgroup, you will be
so inundated with Spam you'll probably have to change it. Big mistake!
In any case, the mostly likely reason for what you describe would be that
your brothers messages are being blocked by a spam filter either by your ISP
or locally. Are you running any security software with a spam filtering
feature?

Of course the ISPs at both ends are going to say it isn't their fault!
The fact remains that the bigger ISPs all have server level
anti-spam filters, although they either won't admit it, or else they
won't reveal how the filters work. Just why your brother's emails to
you are getting caught in a server spam filter is a mystery.
Suffice it to say, it has nothing to do with Vista or Windows Mail.

I'm grateful for your reply, Gary, but it leaves a couple of holes
unplugged. First, why was I able to receive e-mails from my brother,
hundreds of 'em over the years, both of us using the exact same addresses
we're using now ... UP UNTIL I switched from OE on XP to WinMail on Vista?
Secondly, if it's some filter at the ISP, why is it that my brother IS able
to successfully get through to my three alternate RoadRunner addresses?

Incidentally, FWIW, I have no problem SENDING e-mails to HIM, from any of my
addresses.

At times like this, it is my nature to suspect my own stupidity is the
cause, rather than blaming anyone or anything else; you haven't convinced
me, yet, that I'm not stupid.

Grateful for your insight........

Sometimes we see a coincidence where there really is none.
I doubt that Microsoft put a special string of code in Vista
that would blackhole one of your six email addresses. :)

If you feel like experimenting, you could install Thunderbird
and try the problematic email account on it. At least it
would prove once and for all whether Windows Mail is the
problem source.

: Hi bilglas,
:
: Have you double checked and made sure you didn't accidently set blocked
: for your brother's e-mail address or domain? Check here:
:
: 1. open Windows Mail
: 2. click *Tools*
: 3. click *Junk E-mail options*
: 4. click *Blocked Senders *tab
: 5. check list for brother's address and/or domain
: 6. make sure he's in your *Safe Senders* tab
:
: Also, check the same on your ISP's (Roadrunner) E-mail web site for the
: same type of *blocked* settings on their junk/spam filter.
:
: Hope this helps some,
: Shawn

How could the brother's email be received on the other 5 accounts if he was
on the Blocked Senders List?
