Can't read CDs, reads DVDs

Hello,

I've got a Pioneer DVR-108 DVD-R that used to read CDs (music,
data...) without any problems until today. It can no longer read CDs,
although it has no problems reading DVDs.

I suspect that the Windows Update that I performed yesterday created
some kind of a conflict and caused this problem. I am using Windows
XP Professional with SP1 and all upgrades up to SP2 (but excluding SP2
itself).

I get no errors. The device spins the inserted CDs and tries to read
them, but after a minute or so it gives up and shows a blank window in
Windows Explorer, as is the CD is blank. I've tried a number of CDs
and I tried the same CDs on another computer, where I was able to read
them, so this is definitely the device issue.

I have also upgraded the DVR-108 firmware from version 1.10 to 1.14
just now, but that didn't fix the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,

Have you tried a CD lens cleaner disk yet? It could simply be that the lens
is dirty.

I have not tried this. However, the machine can see DVDs without any
problems, so I don't think it's the lens.

Any other ideas for what I could try?

Thanks.
