can't play games

hello everyone i'm new to all this so bare with me .first
of all i'm having trouble playing alot of my games i
think it has some thing to do with directx because the
error message said this : DIRECT X IS NOT SUPPORTED ON
THIS VERSION OF WINDOWS now i have windows xp intel
pentium 4 processor 2.40ghz with 512 cache and it said
that i have a video capture V/Icard geforce 2 MX400 64MB
SDR w/TV OUT VIDEO CARD I don't know if you all need any
more information but i hope you all can help me with what
i provided you all with. I've been stuck here for some
time and i have like 3-4 games that i cannot play and i
just know that its for the same reason so please help
don't know what else to do or where to turn!!!! I would
greatly appreicate you're help Thanks so much Gorda

Direct X is supported in XP,maybe it needs to be up-
graded though.Go to microsoft.com,downloads,get version
9b for end users,probably only one listed.If you want
to chk current direct x,go to run,type:DXDIAG run button
the direct x checker will start,try before and after the
update.Windows update should also offer the new version.

....and the games, how old are they? some games are written to run on
specific versions of windows...XP being the NT kernal...many old games were
written to run on '98...etc
