Does http://localhost/daystar exist?
Can you open it an run a server health check (Tools Server) or a Tools recalculate Hyperlinks

Can you publish from online to a disc based web (w/o errors) at say C:\Myweb
- if so it sounds like a permissions issue in IIS

--

| nope, same error - any other ideas?

yes, it exists and up to this last week, I could open live (www.daystar.com)
and publish to my hard drive (localhost or cd) - now I can only open and
publish from localhost to www.daystar.com - I can NOT publish from my
localhost/daystar to c:\My Webs - when I type in any other location for
remote host in the remote host properties box, other than the www - UNLESS I
click on the box for File System instead of FP or Sharepoint Services - but
then I will get an error box that says that there are dynamic components
that won't work unless they are published to a web server running the FPSE
or SPS - however if I click ignore and continue it publishes to My
Webs/daystar and then when finished I view it and it appears fine. So one
thing I just learned is that I have to choose FILE SYSTEM to publish remote
to my hard drive - --

OK>.......I just tried to do what I want to do within fp2003 .... open the
www.site live and publish to my hard drive... it went thru without a
hitch!!!! I have NO CLUE why it works today and not the last 2 days....no
clue whatsoever... just thought I would try it once more before sending this
message - and decided NOT to erase the above paragraph just so you would see
exactly what I was going thru .... the ONLY thing that I have chnaged this
morning ... was to take OFF Norton antispam off my computer.... and all the
JIMCO add ins yesterday (since they were causing errors when saving pages)
..... don't know if either of these two would effect what I'm trying to do -
but .... whatever.... it seems to be working now - maybe some of this info
will ring a bell with you tech guys and help someone faster next time ...
maybe it was the antispam thing ... who knows??? now ...if I could JUST GET
MY removable drives working???!!! all of the sudden I can not read anything
from any of them!!! a, d, e, and sandisk usb drives....sigh....hate when I
have company over for the weekend and they USE MY COMPUTER .....

thanks for listening and helping me try different things....

Correct - to publish to disc based web you need to select File System and ignore the potential errors

But as I understood your problem was publishing From online web (www.daystar.com) To localhost

What I was trying to do was get you to try, is to publish from your online web (www.daystar.com) to a disc based web (to see if it
was an online web issue, IIS issue, or a PC connection issue)

If you can publish OK from http://www.daystar.com to a disc based web, then it's probably an IIS permissions problem
- if not it may be a PC firewall or connection problem or online server timeout problem

You can also try to open the disc based web (My Webs/daystar) and publish it to a new IIS subweb (say
http://localhost/daystart_test/) to see if it is an IIS problem

--

| yes, it exists and up to this last week, I could open live (www.daystar.com)
| and publish to my hard drive (localhost or cd) - now I can only open and
| publish from localhost to www.daystar.com - I can NOT publish from my
| localhost/daystar to c:\My Webs - when I type in any other location for
| remote host in the remote host properties box, other than the www - UNLESS I
| click on the box for File System instead of FP or Sharepoint Services - but
| then I will get an error box that says that there are dynamic components
| that won't work unless they are published to a web server running the FPSE
| or SPS - however if I click ignore and continue it publishes to My
| Webs/daystar and then when finished I view it and it appears fine. So one
| thing I just learned is that I have to choose FILE SYSTEM to publish remote
| to my hard drive - --
|
|
| OK>.......I just tried to do what I want to do within fp2003 .... open the
| www.site live and publish to my hard drive... it went thru without a
| hitch!!!! I have NO CLUE why it works today and not the last 2 days....no
| clue whatsoever... just thought I would try it once more before sending this
| message - and decided NOT to erase the above paragraph just so you would see
| exactly what I was going thru .... the ONLY thing that I have chnaged this
| morning ... was to take OFF Norton antispam off my computer.... and all the
| JIMCO add ins yesterday (since they were causing errors when saving pages)
| .... don't know if either of these two would effect what I'm trying to do -
| but .... whatever.... it seems to be working now - maybe some of this info
| will ring a bell with you tech guys and help someone faster next time ...
| maybe it was the antispam thing ... who knows??? now ...if I could JUST GET
| MY removable drives working???!!! all of the sudden I can not read anything
| from any of them!!! a, d, e, and sandisk usb drives....sigh....hate when I
| have company over for the weekend and they USE MY COMPUTER .....
|

And - the point is what?

A home page does not always have to be index.htm
- especially on a Unix server

--

Mind if I butt in?

Dunno if this is the problem, but when I just looked at the site www.daystar.com the home page is not index.html it appears to be
default.htm.

|
|
|
|
| You can also try to open the disc based web (My Webs/daystar) and publish it to a new IIS subweb (say
| http://localhost/daystart_test/) to see if it is an IIS problem

|
| | yes, it exists and up to this last week, I could open live (www.daystar.com)
| | and publish to my hard drive (localhost or cd) - now I can only open and
| | publish from localhost to www.daystar.com - I can NOT publish from my
| | localhost/daystar to c:\My Webs - when I type in any other location for
| | remote host in the remote host properties box, other than the www - UNLESS I
| | click on the box for File System instead of FP or Sharepoint Services - but
| | then I will get an error box that says that there are dynamic components
| | that won't work unless they are published to a web server running the FPSE
| | or SPS - however if I click ignore and continue it publishes to My
| | Webs/daystar and then when finished I view it and it appears fine. So one
| | thing I just learned is that I have to choose FILE SYSTEM to publish remote
| | to my hard drive - --
| |
| |
| | OK>.......I just tried to do what I want to do within fp2003 .... open the
| | www.site live and publish to my hard drive... it went thru without a
| | hitch!!!! I have NO CLUE why it works today and not the last 2 days....no
| | clue whatsoever... just thought I would try it once more before sending this
| | message - and decided NOT to erase the above paragraph just so you would see
| | exactly what I was going thru .... the ONLY thing that I have chnaged this
| | morning ... was to take OFF Norton antispam off my computer.... and all the
| | JIMCO add ins yesterday (since they were causing errors when saving pages)
| | .... don't know if either of these two would effect what I'm trying to do -
| | but .... whatever.... it seems to be working now - maybe some of this info
| | will ring a bell with you tech guys and help someone faster next time ...
| | maybe it was the antispam thing ... who knows??? now ...if I could JUST GET
| | MY removable drives working???!!! all of the sudden I can not read anything
| | from any of them!!! a, d, e, and sandisk usb drives....sigh....hate when I
| | have company over for the weekend and they USE MY COMPUTER .....
| |
| | thanks for listening and helping me try different things....

it sounds like she's trying to open a page that isn't there... ? she's talking about index when the home page is default. dunno...just a thought.

| And - the point is what?
|
| A home page does not always have to be index.htm
| - especially on a Unix server

|
| Mind if I butt in?
|
| Dunno if this is the problem, but when I just looked at the site www.daystar.com the home page is not index.html it appears to be
| default.htm.
|
|
|
| |
| |
| |
| |
| | You can also try to open the disc based web (My Webs/daystar) and publish it to a new IIS subweb (say
| | http://localhost/daystart_test/) to see if it is an IIS problem

| |
| | | yes, it exists and up to this last week, I could open live (www.daystar.com)
| | | and publish to my hard drive (localhost or cd) - now I can only open and
| | | publish from localhost to www.daystar.com - I can NOT publish from my
| | | localhost/daystar to c:\My Webs - when I type in any other location for
| | | remote host in the remote host properties box, other than the www - UNLESS I
| | | click on the box for File System instead of FP or Sharepoint Services - but
| | | then I will get an error box that says that there are dynamic components
| | | that won't work unless they are published to a web server running the FPSE
| | | or SPS - however if I click ignore and continue it publishes to My
| | | Webs/daystar and then when finished I view it and it appears fine. So one
| | | thing I just learned is that I have to choose FILE SYSTEM to publish remote
| | | to my hard drive - --
| | |
| | |
| | | OK>.......I just tried to do what I want to do within fp2003 .... open the
| | | www.site live and publish to my hard drive... it went thru without a
| | | hitch!!!! I have NO CLUE why it works today and not the last 2 days....no
| | | clue whatsoever... just thought I would try it once more before sending this
| | | message - and decided NOT to erase the above paragraph just so you would see
| | | exactly what I was going thru .... the ONLY thing that I have chnaged this
| | | morning ... was to take OFF Norton antispam off my computer.... and all the
| | | JIMCO add ins yesterday (since they were causing errors when saving pages)
| | | .... don't know if either of these two would effect what I'm trying to do -
| | | but .... whatever.... it seems to be working now - maybe some of this info
| | | will ring a bell with you tech guys and help someone faster next time ...
| | | maybe it was the antispam thing ... who knows??? now ...if I could JUST GET
| | | MY removable drives working???!!! all of the sudden I can not read anything
| | | from any of them!!! a, d, e, and sandisk usb drives....sigh....hate when I
| | | have company over for the weekend and they USE MY COMPUTER .....
| | |
| | | thanks for listening and helping me try different things....

i'll butt out - just thought Pam was overlooking something simple

| And - the point is what?
|
| A home page does not always have to be index.htm
| - especially on a Unix server

|
| Mind if I butt in?
|
| Dunno if this is the problem, but when I just looked at the site www.daystar.com the home page is not index.html it appears to be
| default.htm.
|
|
|
| |
| |
| |
| |
| | You can also try to open the disc based web (My Webs/daystar) and publish it to a new IIS subweb (say
| | http://localhost/daystart_test/) to see if it is an IIS problem

| |
| |
| | | yes, it exists and up to this last week, I could open live (www.daystar.com)
| | | and publish to my hard drive (localhost or cd) - now I can only open and
| | | publish from localhost to www.daystar.com - I can NOT publish from my
| | | localhost/daystar to c:\My Webs - when I type in any other location for
| | | remote host in the remote host properties box, other than the www - UNLESS I
| | | click on the box for File System instead of FP or Sharepoint Services - but
| | | then I will get an error box that says that there are dynamic components
| | | that won't work unless they are published to a web server running the FPSE
| | | or SPS - however if I click ignore and continue it publishes to My
| | | Webs/daystar and then when finished I view it and it appears fine. So one
| | | thing I just learned is that I have to choose FILE SYSTEM to publish remote
| | | to my hard drive - --
| | |
| | |
| | |

I appreciate your comments Crash - DON'T butt out!! it could well have been
that simple - however, I'm to blame on that confusion - as I didn't finish
my real domain name - just stpped at daystar - it's really
www.daystarranch.com and its a html file (index.html) -

however... whatever it was....everything seems to be working just fine now
(was also having trouble reading my cd's due to FAMILY being in and messing
with my computer all weekend - and after spending 4 days figureing out that
I had to remove all my cd writing software!!!!! to be able to read my
cd's!) - so maybe the cd software had something to do with fp - who knows???
alls well that ends well - thanks for everyone's help - I've learned a lot
about fp2003 in the process

Blessings,
Pam
message i'll butt out - just thought Pam was overlooking something simple

| And - the point is what?
|
| A home page does not always have to be index.htm
| - especially on a Unix server

message | Mind if I butt in?
|
| Dunno if this is the problem, but when I just looked at the site
www.daystar.com the home page is not index.html it appears to be
| default.htm.
|
|
|
| | Correct - to publish to disc based web you need to select File System
and ignore the potential errors
| |
| | But as I understood your problem was publishing From online web
(www.daystar.com) To localhost
| |
| | What I was trying to do was get you to try, is to publish from your
online web (www.daystar.com) to a disc based web (to see if it
| | was an online web issue, IIS issue, or a PC connection issue)
| |
| | If you can publish OK from http://www.daystar.com to a disc based web,
then it's probably an IIS permissions problem
| | - if not it may be a PC firewall or connection problem or online server
timeout problem
| |
| | You can also try to open the disc based web (My Webs/daystar) and
publish it to a new IIS subweb (say
| | http://localhost/daystart_test/) to see if it is an IIS problem

| |
| |
| | | yes, it exists and up to this last week, I could open live
(www.daystar.com)
| | | and publish to my hard drive (localhost or cd) - now I can only open
and
| | | publish from localhost to www.daystar.com - I can NOT publish from my
| | | localhost/daystar to c:\My Webs - when I type in any other location
for
| | | remote host in the remote host properties box, other than the www -
UNLESS I
| | | click on the box for File System instead of FP or Sharepoint
Services - but
| | | then I will get an error box that says that there are dynamic
components
| | | that won't work unless they are published to a web server running the
FPSE
| | | or SPS - however if I click ignore and continue it publishes to My
| | | Webs/daystar and then when finished I view it and it appears fine. So
one
| | | thing I just learned is that I have to choose FILE SYSTEM to publish
remote
| | | to my hard drive - --
| | |
| | |
| | | OK>.......I just tried to do what I want to do within fp2003 .... open
the
| | | www.site live and publish to my hard drive... it went thru without a
| | | hitch!!!! I have NO CLUE why it works today and not the last 2
days....no
| | | clue whatsoever... just thought I would try it once more before
sending this
| | | message - and decided NOT to erase the above paragraph just so you
would see
| | | exactly what I was going thru .... the ONLY thing that I have chnaged
this
| | | morning ... was to take OFF Norton antispam off my computer.... and
all the
| | | JIMCO add ins yesterday (since they were causing errors when saving
pages)
| | | .... don't know if either of these two would effect what I'm trying to
do -
| | | but .... whatever.... it seems to be working now - maybe some of this
info
| | | will ring a bell with you tech guys and help someone faster next time
....
| | | maybe it was the antispam thing ... who knows??? now ...if I could
JUST GET
| | | MY removable drives working???!!! all of the sudden I can not read
anything
| | | from any of them!!! a, d, e, and sandisk usb drives....sigh....hate
when I
| | | have company over for the weekend and they USE MY COMPUTER .....
| | |
| | | thanks for listening and helping me try different things....

sometimes butting is breaks the train of thought so I don't like to do that to the gurus. however, sometimes.... yah never know.

CD software and fp...kinda doubt it....maybe a full moon.

|
|
| --
| Blessings,
| Pam
| message | i'll butt out - just thought Pam was overlooking something simple
|
|
| | | And - the point is what?
| |
| | A home page does not always have to be index.htm
| | - especially on a Unix server

| message | | Mind if I butt in?
| |
| |
| |
| |
| | |
| | |
| | |
| | |

| | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | | OK>.......I just tried to do what I want to do within fp2003 ..... open
| the
| | | | www.site live and publish to my hard drive... it went thru without a
| | | | hitch!!!! I have NO CLUE why it works today and not the last 2
| days....no
| | | | clue whatsoever... just thought I would try it once more before
| sending this
| | | | message - and decided NOT to erase the above paragraph just so you
| would see
| | | | exactly what I was going thru .... the ONLY thing that I have chnaged
| this
| | | | morning ... was to take OFF Norton antispam off my computer.... and
| all the
| | | | JIMCO add ins yesterday (since they were causing errors when saving
| pages)
| | | | .... don't know if either of these two would effect what I'm trying to
| do -
| | | | but .... whatever.... it seems to be working now - maybe some of this
| info
| | | | will ring a bell with you tech guys and help someone faster next time
| ...
| | | | maybe it was the antispam thing ... who knows??? now ...if I could
| JUST GET
| | | | MY removable drives working???!!! all of the sudden I can not read
| anything
| | | | from any of them!!! a, d, e, and sandisk usb drives....sigh....hate
| when I
| | | | have company over for the weekend and they USE MY COMPUTER .....
| | | |
| | | | thanks for listening and helping me try different things....

The error message "an error occurred accessing your windows sharepoin
services site files" and also the inability to access your web sit
through FP while on an IIS is a result of not having FP Extentions o
your IIS server. Once installed via Administrative Tools in you
Control Panel the site should work.
