Pam

well, I've never had this problem before - its only since upgrading to
2003 - also - I resell host space, so I'm responsible on that end...but it
should open the files, when I double click on the name? It opens the site,
asks for permission names/password, shows up in front page - just can't get
it to open the durn pages!! I've tried opening the sites from the browser by
clicking on edit/fp - and then opening fp and trying to go that route - both
ways gives me the error below

any help would sure be appreciated! I need to open live!

P

Pam

I can see at the bottom of the scroll bar where it will say - 'retrieving
file' then processing file and then I get the error that its timed out or
server aborted

T

Thomas A. Rowe

Is this with just a specific web or any web?

I maintain about 15 webs - I've tried about half of them - I can 'open' them
live ... just can't get any of the files to open once the site is opened in
fp

P

Pam

how do I check host permissions? - also - I tried clicking at the bottom of
the screen whre it says Remote Web Site - above it then it opened up of
course my local website : http://www.name.com and remote
http://localhost/name
when I tried to publish from local to remote I got this error:

An error occurred accessing your Windows SharePoint Services site files.
Authors - if authoring against a Web server, please contact the Webmaster
for this server's Web site. WebMasters - please see the server's application

so could it be that I have some problem with the SPS?? I don't know what
that is and am not using it as far as I know - please help :)

Lets be clear where you problem is

In FP 2003 the local site is the one you currently have open in FP, and the remote site is the one you are trying to publish to
- so if you open your online site on the web (http://www.yoursitename.com/) and look at the Remote Web Site:
- your Local site is http://www.yoursitename.com
(the one hosted by someone else online)
- your Remote site would be http://localhost/name
(the one on your PC running under IIS and the FP SE)
- or if publishing to a disc based web locally
- your Remote site would be say: C:\MyFolder\MyWebName

What do you have open, and where are you trying to publish
- Do you have the FP SE install and applied to your PC under IIS and is "name" a subweb under localhost?

| how do I check host permissions? - also - I tried clicking at the bottom of

yes, when I open live a site - I open fp2003, go to file/open site/my
documents and open live www.domain.com which then is my 'local' site - the
remote site is http://localhost/name I am trying to publish the live,
'local' site to my hard drive - localhost/name .... which I have always
been able to do before upgrading to 2003 (had 2002 before) ...

you're other question ... do I have FP SE installed and applied to your PC
under IIS and is the 'name' a subweb under localhost?

I'm not sure -how do I check that? thanks for your help

ok, I did go to control panel/admin tools/ and then clicked on IIS icon -
which opens the IIS box, in that box it lists:

IIS
Pamela (local computer)
Default Web Site
IIS HElp
Sharepoint
vti_bin
Printers
and then all my websites are listed

is this correct and what you are talking about?
