Can't open Internet Explorer.

My Internet Explorer hasn't been working since yesterday and I don't know
why. When I try to open it I get an error report window. What can I do to
fix this?

If it is suggested that I reinstall IE, I'm having a problem with the setup,
and I don't know how to uninstall it. The ie6setup brings up a window saying,
"The procedure entry point InternetGetConnectedState could not be located in
the dynamic link library WININET.dll."

Help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I meant to give my Windows version. I'm on Windows XP.

As for the error, it's the same Error Report window that comes up from
anything else that messes up, except it's for Internet Explorer. It says,
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience." It then says a bit more stuff that's not important,
and I have the option to send an Error Report to Microsoft.

First eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Well, the "bit more stuff" could be important. Click on the Details link
and write down what it says, then post it here.
