Can't open IE7

K

kevinbowker

After installing the release version of IE7, I have an interesting
problem. When I open the browser, I get a quick splash screen, then IE
closes with no error message. To access the web, I have to open
Windows Explorer and type the web address in the address bar. This
will open IE and I can surf normally.

Anybody have a clue how to fix this?

Hi kevin :)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, have you tried
using the IE icon on the Start menu to open IE?

If you have any 3rd party toolbars, such as Google, Yahoo or MSN disable
them and see if that helps. If you have Yahoo Companion installed uninstall
it, it is known to cause many problems.

Cannot open Internet Explorer from a limited user account in Windows XP

Try disabling add-ons from Control Panel> Internet Options> Programs> Manage
add-ons. An add-on may be causing this.
Next... See if IE opens in the user account from a Safe Mode with Networking
startup.

If IE opens from Safe Mode, you need to find the third-party program,
toolbar, add-on, etc. that's causing the problem.

Disable (for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers,
security, toolbars and other add-ons for IE, anti-virus, etc. Take a look at
any program that might be interfering with IE. You may have to reconfigure,
reinstall, or not reinstall, a program. Turn on the Windows Firewall (from
Control Panel or Security Center) before disabling a third-party firewall.

Less likely, but it may be a malware problem.

Thanks Jan! While it isn't malware, it is a BHO popup blocker (Surf
Pal). I've been using it for years and didn't think to check it.

I tried to get the ToolbarCop from one of your links, but couldn't find
a download link (fyi)

Oh yeah, I'm running WinXP SP2.

Thanks again for pointing out what should have been obvious!

Nice to see a result - shame that those who use the correct IE7 group to
solve their problems, probably will miss this fix.

Geez, Antioch, no need to be so crass. Had I seen an IE7 group that
wasn't beta, I would've posted my question there. Perhaps others can
find the article posted here or some savvy surfer such as yourself can
post a link for others.

Your wish is my command - but I don't know what you mean by 'had I seen an
IE7 group that wasn't beta'?

IE7 questions should be posted to the Internet Explorer General newsgroup as
below -
