Can't install Sierra Air Card 580

Hello everybody

Last time I had problem installing webcam I received great help here,
I hope I'll get it also this time

Before building image to support the device, I'm trying to install
Sierra Air Card 580 (it is PCMCIA type II card) in the standard way
- from a CD attached to my XPe,

The installation is composed of two stages:
1.Application (called AirCard Watcher) installation which is done
without the card inserted into the slot
2.Drivers installation, after XPE detects the new HW

When the XPE detects the new device, it failed in installing the
device driver with a message:

"Can not install this hardware, Error occurred during installation of
the device (USB) The drive installation file for this device is
missing a necessary entry"

I tried to update the device driver with various driver options from
the vendor CD, but all ended with the same error.

I checked the hardware manager after this message and found that the
device was added (USB controller) but the driver was not installed.

I spent the last two days trying to solve the problem without any
success

Hope to get your professional help here.

Thanks in advanced

Yogiv,

First of all, I don't think CD installation is a good way of installing drivers on XPe.
You better look at the componentizing option for the driver.

In any case, you may:
- Make sure you've got all the driver dependencies in your image (use DependencyWalker, Regmon, FileMon tools)

- Analyze SetupAPI.log to see why the driver is failing to install

- Install the driver on XP Pro and capture all its files and reg.settings (use Inctrl5 or RegSnap tools).
If it is a PnP driver, you just have to copy all the required files to appropriate directories on the target image via
your component.
Or you can use CD INF importer to make a component.
