NEC to PCI Open Host Controller cannot find enough free resources

I'm having problems with XP embedded builds (existing, and new) trying to
connect to a PCMCIA/Cardbus card (Sierra Wireless AirCard 880E or an AC875)

Problem is that what did work fine with both AC875 and AC880E and is now
failing to discover these cards when installed.

The hardware that is my target (Giantec Zito 1500) has a Ricoh 5C475 or
5C520 cardbus controller (the driver is generic).

When I plug in the AirCard I get addition devices "underneath" the Ricoh
controller in XP device manager "devices by connection" view - so I'm
guessing that the NEC PC to USB Open Host Controller is actually on the
Sierra AirCard.

Zito 1500
- PCI Bus
- Intel 82801 PCI Bridge 244E
- Ricoh Cardbus Controller
- NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller (fails to start)
- NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller (fails to start)
- (AirCard 875 should be here)

The problem is that these NEC PC to USB OHC devices are marked as "failed"
in the device manager with "Code 12 - This device cannot find enough free
resources"; but no actual explanation of what resources aren't available.

All of the hardware involved has worked (many times, many boots, many
months, many hardware instances)... but at some point in the recent past, it
has stopped working. I'm currently chasing Sierra Wireless to see if recent
software updates may have reconfigured the firmware on the cards, or updated
the hardware configuration somehow?

We are using XP embedded FP2007, but have also tried a straight install of
XP retail with the same results.

Have chased both "Code 12" and Ricoh and NEC posts in TechNet, general web
etc without any joy.
Have tried various flavours of generic cardbus controller component,
pci-to-usb components, Intel INF files etc etc.
There's been lots of anecdotal reports of similar issues with Ricoh
controllers etc, and lots of "voodoo solutions" but nothing that really
helps pin it down.

I'm pulling my hair out on this one, any help is appreciated.

cheers,

dean

Hello Dean,
I don't know anything about Ricoh device, but I suggest you to look into
setupapi.log file in c:\Windows,
devices install are logged into this file: perhaps you'll find there more
info about the error.
If your device shows errors even in XP retail, don't look more in XPE: check
with onother unit since it could be a failure.

It did, unfortunately, turn out to be bad hardware (cpu w/pc card slot). I
say unfortunately since it was a brand new unit, straight out of stock....

The joys of being a software guy ;-)

cheers,
