can't install net.framework 3.5

I am having this bizarre problem when I try to install net.framewor
3.5. I have tried to install it a number of times with no luck, an
when I try to check the error log nothing comes up. I googled th
problem and made sure there were no obvious problems (e.g. - IIS i
activated). I tried to install using the more comprehensiv
"dotnetfx35.exe" install file. That when I realized it was extractin
to another partition which was not even on the same hard drive!!
thought maybe it was because I was installing from a partition othe
than C, so moved the file to C & tried again. Same problem, excep
this time it extracted to yet another partition, again not even on th
same hard drive. I have not had this problem with any other version o
net.framework. I am running XP Pro SP3.
Thank

The extraction process will pick one of the partitions or drives where the
most free space is found.
Also this file creates a temporary folder, so if the installation completes
properly this temp folder
will be deleted.

Hi Rob T.,

There is no .Net Framework 3.5 for Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack
3 version that I have. I went to Windows Update. The last is .Net Framework
3.0 SP1 version, which installed fine in Windows XP Home Edition Service
Pack 2 without problems.

Did you receive it as a Hotfix or Optional Software from Windows Update
for Windows XP?

The partition being used by .net 3.5 to hold the installation files is
irrelevant.

What is the actual "bizarre problem" that you are having with it?

I installed it on XP Home SP2 using the online installer. You have to
disable your antivirus program temporarily. You may have to uninstall other
versions of .net Framework and reinstall them first if you persist in having
problems installing this update.
