Can't install KB824105 & KB824146

For some reason I can download but not install the above
two Critical Updates. Can someone tell me why?

Also, this problem seems to tie in with me getting an XP
pop-up window that asks me to insert my XP Professional CD
because "some files that are needed to run the OS are
corrupted or missing and need to be restored." Or
something like that. When this pop-up somes up I click on
the DETAILS button and I get no information beyond the
fact that XP couldn't find the XP CD. I can never find
out what files are in trouble.

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't install KB824146. It has caused problems such as
not being able to access the internet afterwards, color
resets and some other things. Read them in the newsgroup.
