Can't get rid of "SPI has encountered a problem..." error at start

I keep getting an "SPI has encountered a problem and must be closed" error at
startup and can't get rid of it. I've checked the K.B. for info and made
sure the programs which use it are set to 'Automatic' in Admin. Tools /
Services, but it still keeps popping up every time I restart the computer.
The 'More Info' tab tells me the file is CTXFISIPI.EXE, app. ver.
1.0.21.1180, but search of my computer came up with no such file and neither
did a search of Microsoft .com. What the hell is SPI anyway, and how do I
fix this?

In addendum: I've googled "SPI" and know what it is, but need to know
exactly what services it relies on (or that rely on it) and what the proper
setting(s) should be --- 'disabled', 'manual', or 'automatic'?

I don't think you spelled that file name correctly. Isn't it CTXFISPI.exe
without the extra I? That file and SPI has something to do with a Creative
Labs product. Do you have a Creative labs sound card. Uninstall, then
install the latest sound card drivers from the Creative labs site.

Rock--I did a double-check on the spelling of the error (I just had to reboot
and it showed up again) and, believe it or not, the error was spelled out
just as I had originally posted it: CTXFISIPI.EXE. HOWEVER, running 'search'
found the version you had suggested and yes, it was a Creative Audigy file.
Regardless, I did as you suggested and uninstalled / reinstalled the drivers
and now everything is hunky-dorey. Thanks. (and forget I wrote
"hunky-dorey"---I don't know where that came from.)

Well, that's interesting that it spelled the file wrong..hmm. Glad that was
the problem and you have it resolved, and thanks for posting back the
resolution.
