cant get internet connection sharing to disable

A

adam

i have a home network with a cable modem and a router set
up. my pc is hooked into the router and is working just
fine. i just installed windows xp on my roomates pc from
scratch, and for some reason, it is forcing internet
connection sharing to run. when i go to the network
properties, it has the local area connection AND an
internet gateway that says internet connection. windows
won't let me disable or delete this icon. when i go to
the network setup wizard, i tell it to choose another
connection type, and select hub. a message then comes up
saying that this connection type isn't recommended due to
security issues (firewall) and it just reverts back to
using an internet gateway. i tried setting up my router
and using IP addresses and such, but nothing seems to
work. he also only has one ethernet card in there. is
there any way that i can get the network settings to work
properly without using ICS? thanks for any help.

Hi Adam.

Internet gateway that you see is only telling you that there is one gateway
on the network that you can use. It does not mean that this computer has
enabled ICS. One in your network has this. Like your router. So i dont think
you have a problem at all.

Run the network wizard and tell it that you get to the 'net via
a residential gateway -- M$speak for a router.
