internet connection gateway?

While trying to troubleshoot an internet connection lag problem i noticed my
desktop has a connection listed under "network connections" called internet
connection gateway. I also have my local area connection listed. My setup
is both my pc and laptop are connected to a router. The laptop does not show
the internet connection gateway connection. Did I somehow set up the pc as
an ICS gateway?? I shouldnt need ICS if each comp is connected to a router
right? I dont remember seeing this icon there before and im pretty sure when
i set up the network i choose "this computer connects to the internet through
a hub or router"

You haven't set up ICS. The Internet Connection Gateway represents
your router. Clicking that connection lets you monitor and control
the router's operation. If you disable your router's built-in UPnP
(Universal Plug and Play) capability, the connection will disappear.

To get the Internet Connection Gateway to appear on the laptop:

1. Make sure that the "SSDP Discovery Service" is running:

a. Right click My Computer, and click Manage.
b. Double click Services and Applications.
c. Double click Services.
d. Double click "SSDP Discovery Service". If the Service status is
Stopped, click Start.
e. If the Startup type is Disabled, set it to Manual.

2. Make sure that the "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control
Client" networking service is installed:

a. Click Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs.
b. Click "Add/Remove Windows Components".
c. Scroll down the list of components and double click "Networking
Services".
d. If there's a box for "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and
Control Client", put a check mark in it.
