I am having problems installing a network to use my broadband
connection on a second PC. Both computers use Windows XP Home.
Computer A is connected to the broadband modem by USB. Computers A and
B are connected via Ethernet. Both Ethernet cards are reported by
Device Manager as correctly installed. Both computers report the
Ethernet as connected in Network Connections.
I have even done a complete system reinstall on both computers since I
first experienced these problems.
I have installed and reinstalled the network myriad times using
Network Setup Wizard.
I once (once only) managed to get Computer B able to see computer A
and access both the Internet and shared files on computer A. I
disconnected the cable to attempt a connection to a laptop and on
reconnecting everything was lost.
The present position is that:
Computer B can see Computer A but on attempting to access it gets a
message:
"[Computer A] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource, Contact the administrator of the server to find
out if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found."
Computer A cannot see Computer B at all. The Network is visible but
Computer A is the only computer on it.
