Can't get files back after nondestructive system restore

On my computer, I had 5 user profiles for each member in my family. Of these
5, two of them were password protected. All of a sudden, my computer would
freeze all the time at the black Windows XP loading screen. Why it was doing
that isn't a problem anymore; I ran system restore and it doesn't do that
anymore. When I ran system restore, it gave me two options. One was the
destructive system restore, which reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled
windows, but the other one said it wouldn't delete user files. I wondered
for a while how the system determined system applications and user files
apart, but then it was obvious that it would save everything in all the my
documents folders. Sure enough, I ran the system restore, and all the user
profiles are still there. The thing is, when I start up my system, it
doesn't show the user sign in screen like it used to. I went in to the user
accounts control panel, and it doesn't even list those names as user accounts
anymore. In the Documents and Settings folder, it has a folder for everybody
that had an account, but on the users control panel, all it has is the Owner
and Guest accounts. I can't even access the documents in the two password
protected documents. I can still access the documents that weren't password
protected, but I need to be able to get to all of them. If I could at least
just be able to get into all the documents, it would make things a lot less
painful, but I would still like to get the user accounts back. Please help!
