Unable to log-in or find User Profile after re-starting

I re-started my computer after installing updates for my IBM Thinkpad T42. It
started up fine, and went to the usual log-on screen.

For some reason, though, I am unable to log-in to my profile with the
password I've always used. It tells me that I have been locked out by the
administrator. So, I logged-in as the Administrator and went to the User
Accounts on Control Panel, and my profile is not in there!

I don't know what happened. All I did was update my computer and re-start
it, and now my profile seems to have dissappeared. I even went into Documents
and Settings, chose my user name, and all of the folders are there, but the
documents that should be in them are gone! All of the folders are empty.

I've tried to restore my system several times to different restore points,
but everytime it makes me log-in as Administrator and tells me that my
computer cannot be restored to that date.

Does anyone have a clue what's wrong?

This is a shot in the dark.
Your Admin account was made Private and you updated your computer in your
other account?

Check the following,

Log on with the Administrator account.
Right click My Computer and select Manage from the menu.
Note: You can also launch Computer Management by going to
Start -> Run and entering compmgmt.msc in the Open box.
In Computer Management, click on Local Users and Groups in the
left hand column.
In the right hand pane, double click on the Users folder.
From the list of Users, right click on your account and select
Properties from the menu.
Remove the check mark from the box next to "Account is locked
out".
Click OK.
Close Computer Management.

Next, go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools and launch
Local Security Policy.
Note: You can also go to Start -> Run and enter secpol.msc in
the Open box.
In the left hand column of Local Security Settings, click on
the + sign next to Account Polices to expand the branch.
Click on Account Lockout Policy.
In the right hand pane, check to make sure that "Account
lockout threshold" is set to 0.
You can change the setting by right clicking on the policy and
selecting Properties from the menu.

Once you've finished making changes, close any open windows.
Log off from the Administrator account and see if you can log
on with your account.

If Windows will not accept your password, you can log on with
the Administrator account and reset it in Control Panel -> User
Accounts. Keep in mind that if you have any encrypted files,
changing your password in this manner will prevent you from
accessing those files.

Good luck
