See if you can take ownership of it.

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
[Q308421]

To take ownership you must be logged in as
administrator. Then rt.click on the folder> properties>
security tab> advanced button> owner tab Select the
account you want to get ownership, check the box to
replace owner on subcontainers and objects and click
apply.

Someone responded to my orignal message about taking
ownership of the files that is not the issue. Disk
Managment shows the 2nd drive as unformatted, which it
was, before I reinstalled windows on the 1st drive.

I have two hard drives HD#1 80GB and HD#2 160 GB. I had
to reinstall Windows XP Pro on a partition on HD#1 which
was the original operating system partition. Now that its
done HD #2 shows up in Disk Management as 153 GB of
Unformated space. Is there any way to access the data on
HD#2. HD#2 was set up as storage and has no operating
system install. I fear that I destroyed the partition
information Is there anyway to retreive the data using
Windows or third party software?

I feel like an idiot!
Thanks for your help in advance.

For data recovery software, I like Easy Recovery Pro, but it is
expensive. You can google for "data recovery software" and see what you
come up with. If you are uncomfortable working with partitions
yourself, you could always try a good local repair shop (not a CompUSA
or Best Buy type of store). If the local people can't get it, then
there is always a professional data recovery firm like DriveSavers.
However, that's a fairly expensive option. You can check out their
website at www.drivesavers.com.

Good luck,

Malke
