Can't find the tracking tab in Outlook?

I am aware that it is possible for outlook (as in Office XP Small Business)
to display a tracking tab on sent items and whilst I receive acknowledgements
for e-mails sent I can't get the tracking tab facility to work - obviously I
am missing something, help appreciated.

Assuming the tracking receipts are returned in RTF format, they should
autoprocess and display on the message in the sent folder. Once they
process, the sent item's icon changes to a little blue and white !. If they
do not autoprocess, opening the receipt should force it.
