Can't enter text

Using WinXP. Each time I boot up the keyboard is unresponsive. Can't enter
text. Found by trial and error that if Shift key is held down for few
seconds(must be held until beeping stops) the keyboard becomes usuable. I
installed WinXP a few months ago but the situation has just started in the
last couple of weeks.
Anyone have any idea what is going on.
 
use system restore and go back 2 weeks and a few days to before when the
trouble started?
system restore takes snap shots of yer comp connfiguration and if the
problem wasn't here before when you install back to thatperiod it'll be gone?
 
Could it be the accessibility options?
Look in control panel>accessibility options>keyboard.
Check the settings for the three options listed.
