Hi,
I'd be grateful if anyone can help with my download problem.
I can't download Windows XP2 - after several attempts. It trys to download
but nothing happens
When i purchased my laptop from DELL (2 years ago), I had SP2 however I
recently had to have my hard drive repaired by an independent, which resulted
in all my files being wiped and I now have Windows XP1 service pack.
Not sure what to do to get SP2 after downlaods just aren't working, any help
woruld be much appreciated.
Thanks
Sarah

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "downloads". This partly because
sometimes, people use that word when they really mean "installs", and
downloading and installing are two very different things.

I find it more reliable to download the entire SP2 file, around 266 meg and
install it from the local file rather use the online update.

So, Googling "XP SP2 IT" gets this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

if you can't download this yourself, find a friend or an internet cafe, or a
friendly office, or library, computer shop etc. with a high-speed
connection, who can download this for you, and burn it to CD.

You can order the SP2 CD from Microsoft, but that will probably take longer
than getting it from someone local. Costs will probably be similar - or
less for the local one.

Then, simply put the CD in and run the service pack install from the file on
the CD, or, copy the Service Pack to a folder on the hard disk, which will
make the setup run very slightly faster.

I am having a similar problem. I un-installed XP2 because I was having
problems with PC. Now when I try to re-install (using automatic update or
XP2 CD) the installation runs for about 20 minutes and then, when installing
files, stops and gives a message "Access Denied". It then proceeds to remove
all previously installed files. Any help greatly appreciated as I'm pulling
my hair out!!!

Have you looked here?

It may be possible for you to take another route, depending on the type of
XP install media you have. And that's slipstreaming SP2 with your install
CD, making a new, SP2 CD. Then, you'd simply do a repair install, and when
done, you have SP2 installed.

Ah, you have a Dell. Unfortunately, Dell adds other updates to their
install CDs and that usually means that they can't be slipstreamed. In
that case, contact Dell support and see if you can get at some reasonable
cost an updated CD that *has* SP2 already.

Hi,
You cannot install some updates or programs

In the above link for the reg.bat, try to save it to the desktop, then
double click the file to execute and click Yes when prompted.
