Can't delete or open file on desktop...

I have a .jpg file, with a long name, on my desktop. Right clicking doesn't
give any delete or properties options. Just Edit, Preview, Open With. And,
I can't open it. Any ideas?

Can you drag it to the Recycle Bin? What program have you attempted to
open it with?

Can drag it but it won't go into a folder or the recycle bin. Have tried to
open with several programs that open jpegs.

Try right clicking Start button, choose explore from the dropdown menu. In
the window that opens click on desktop in the left pane. In the right pane
you should see all your desktop icons. Right click the file and select
delete, or highlight the file and select delete from the file menu. If that
doesn't work can you rename it to something deletable? Like abc.log. There
is also the desktop cleanup wizard under desktop properties might work. It
moves unused items to a folder and take the items out that you want to save
then delete the folder.

Tried all that. There isn't a Delete option when this file is highlighted.
Can't rename it either.

To delete an undeletable file.

1. Write down the path and filename of the undeletable file.
2. Open a command prompt window. (Start > Run > cmd.exe)
3. Open the Task Manager. (Start > Run > taskmgr.exe)
4. In the Task Manager, find the process called "Explorer" and end the
process for explorer. (This will make the desktop and taskbar disappear)
5. Close the Task Manager.
6. In the command prompt window, type:

del /a /f "\\?\path\filename"

So if the file was called abc.jpg located in c:\pictures then the command
would look like:

del /a /f "\\?\c:\pictures\abc.jpg"

7. To regain your desktop and taskbar, type the following in the command
prompt window:

explorer.exe
