XP Home, SP2, external 250GB Hitachi, have an ISO file on external drive,
no bytes in file and can not delete file.

Tried to defrag the external HDD and message says I must chkdsk /f the drive
but I do not know how.

ran chkdsk /f and it chkdsk'd the C drive, not the external F drive.

Also How can I get ISO file to be deleted from F drive?

Thanks Robert

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode and seeing if you can manage the drive
from there? To boot to Safe Mode restart the computer and immediately begin
tapping the F8 key. You should see a black screen with a boot menu. Select
the option to start in Safe Mode. This will start the computer with minimal
resources running. If the external drive is recognized try deleting the file
and

To understand chkdsk go to Start->Help & Support and enter the word chkdsk
into the search bar. It will tell you how to direct chkdsk to run on the
drive you want scanned.

Thank you very much.
Running

chkdsk f: /f did the trick.

Unwanted iso file got eliminated in the process.

Good to know. Thanks

See post regarding running chkdsk f: /f

which solved the problem.
