Can't create system restore points

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows XP Home in a dual boot
raid 0 configuration. I'm aware that booting into Xp removes the restore
points from Vista. However, I cannot automatically create any restore points
in Vista. I can manually create a restore point but it will disappear when I
reboot the system. I am rebooting into Vista, not xp and it still will show
no restore points. Any advise would be appreciated

Run cmd.exe as administrator, then vssadmin list writers command. Do you
see any error on the screen? Run vssadmin list shadowstorage. Do you
find allocated storage space assigned to your partition?

Hm. Turn off System Restore on C:, then turn it on again. It will force
allocating a space for Shadow Copy storage area on this partition. Then
create one restore point and rerun those vssadmin commands. There must
be no error from any writer.

Take a look into Event Viewer, maybe there are registered errors from
VSS or volsnap.

were 29 volsnap errors and 46 vss errors in the six weeks I've had Vista
installed.

No, the behavior is the same. When I opened system restore, it said no restore points were created. It also registered a volsnap error. Again, I havent booted into XP for days.I,m wondering if it could be related to how I set up the system. I installed Xp first on the raid volume and then installed vista on the other partition. Even though they are on separate partitions, does xp always see vista? Or, is there a problem with my Vista causing the restore to not function automatically?

Do you use any McAfee product like virusscan? Maybe disable now any
antivirus you have. I think you must also test your hard disk with some
diagnostic tool. Here you find many utilities for testing different

No, it's not possible. If you will not run Windows XP or Windows XP
Recovery Console then it is meaningless, how and where was those systems
installed.

IMO this is a problem with Vista or with your hdd, disk controller
driver, or BIOS.
