System Restore

Hi,
I am using windows vista ultimate. I can manually create a system restore
point, but vista does not automatically create a schedule system restore
point everyday. The "C" drive is check to have automatic restore points.
could there be something wrong with the scheduler? Any thoughts. Thanks.

I hope someone answers because I'm having the exact same problem. I never
thought to see if restore points were being created automatically since XP
did this without a hitch. Unfortunately, I needed to restore today only to
discover no points had been created. I did a manual restore point today, but
I'm not sure that this will take care of having automatic restore points done
from this point forward. Please, if anyone has any advice, it would be
greatly appreciated. I saw another post from someone with this issue as well
with no resolution. Thanks in advance.

Before we explore your System Restore Points any further-
Are you dual-booting with WinXP?

Have you looked in Event Viewer for any errors?
Click the Start button, type in "Event Viewer", hit enter.
Look under Windows Logs>Application

Have a look at the link below to see if any of these errors
might apply to your situation.

I can do a manual restore point. My question is why weren't restore points
being created automatically? Do you know if Vista default to automatic
restore points being off?

Arlene,

You didn't answer any of my questions.

I can't help you without more information.

I apologize. No, I don't have dual booting--have no idea what that is. Event
Viewer is overkill I think for this. I'm pretty sure that Vista initially
defaults to having no drive checked. I think now that I've checked it, I'll
be OK for future automatic backups.

Glad it seems worked out, Arlene.

If I'm not mistaken, System Restore will only create a
24 hour automatic backup when your computer is idle.
If you've installed or uninstalled a program during that
period and a restore point was created, I don't think a
checkpoint restore point gets created. I may wrong.

Also, if you use Disk Cleanup to delete all but the last restore
point, then all you will have is the very last restore point created. :)

Some folks have adjusted the size of System Restore, actually
shadow storage size. If set too small, you won't have but one
or two restore points listed. More than likely, you haven't messed
with that, so don't worry.

Take care,

Michael
